Tow policy changes proposed

WAYNESVILLE – The Waynesville Police and Emergency Services Committee discussed towing policy changes at its May 1 meeting.

After briefly discussing complaints from towing companies and meeting in closed session for legal issues , the committee decided on some proposed policy changes. In one proposed change, police would be instructed to offer a car’s owner first choice of the tow company they want to use. In cases where the vehicle owner does not make a choice,

a modified rotation system would be used to select a towing company, They will also look at using a bid system.

The city last month received a letter from local tow companies asking it to use a rotating call list for vehicle tows in Waynesville. They also asked that the city punish police officers who do not follow the list or fail to honor a driver’s
